Raise your whiskies: Cheers to... what are we doing here?
I catch the train from London's Kings Cross station to Glasgow. I watch the sky turn from semi-grey to a light grape colour as I crossed the country Scotland-bound. This place gives New Zealand a run for its money as the Land of the Long White Cloud. I prepare for a whole lot of 'adventuring' to do.I am staying at Cairncross House, student housing during the semester, but vacated during the holidays for outsiders. I have a big room (I've seen the RA's - now that is huge). Right. I'm spreading my shit out.
You'd think I'd been living in a matchbox for the last week. It's a 15 minute walk from the University of Glasgow where I'm attending a conference which starts in 2 days time. Good thing Dave Berry probably will never read my Blogpage...Upon arrival, I make a new friend. Elrica from a Singaporean university who is also staying at the hostel and attending the do-dah. We go out for groceries. We end up returning several hours later slightly inebriated (or 'rosy' and 'happier than usual'
as I'd like to think). We blame it on Ashton Place - a local hang-out near the university full of pubs and eateries. And ₤2.50 whiskies. Right. I don't drink whiskey. But tonight. I drink whiskey. And you know what? It agrees with me. I could pick up a lot of bad habits here. I like Scotland already. A lot.
